چکیده
Abstract Background Pro-inflammatory/anti-inflammatory cytokine imbalance in cerebrospinal fluid or plasma of schizophrenia (SCZ) and bipolar disorder (BD) patients has been documented over the last decade. We aim to examine interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1RA) IL-4 variable number tandem repeat (VNTR) polymorphisms SCZ BD by comparing them with healthy controls. Methods Two hundred thirty-four unrelated (127 SCZ, 107 BD) 204 controls were included. The Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Axis I Disorders was used confirm diagnosis. In addition, polymerase chain reaction technique investigate IL-1RA VNTR polymorphisms. Results Our results showed that distributions genotype allele frequencies not significantly different from control group. 2 homozygous non-significantly higher among than Conclusions study indicates are considered risk factors developing Turkish patients.

Evaluation of the expression of interleukin 1 beta (IL-1beta) and interleukin 1 receptor antagonist (IL-1Ra) in leprosy patients.
Leprosy is an infectious and contagious spectral disease accompanied by a series of immunological events triggered by the host's response to the etiologic agent, Mycobacterium leprae. Evidence suggests that the induction and maintenance of the immune/inflammatory response in leprosy are linked to multiple cell interactions and soluble factors, mainly through the action of cytokines. The ELISA t...

BACKGROUND The polymorphism of Interleukin 1 receptor antagonist gene (IL-1RN), which encodes a natural antagonist of pro-inflammatory cytokines belonging to IL-1 family and Haptoglobin (HP) have been studied in various ethnic groups in association with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) risk and related complications. However, there was no study available among the Emirati population. Hence, we d...
متن کاملInterleukin-1B (IL-1B-31 and IL-1B-511) and interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1Ra) gene polymorphisms in primary immune thrombocytopenia
Background Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an immune-mediated disease caused by autoantibodies against platelets membrane glycoproteins GPIIb/IIIa and GPIb/IX. The etiology of ITP remains unclear. This study evaluated the association of polymorphisms in interleukin (IL)-1B-31, IL-1B-511, and IL-1Ra with ITP. Methods Genotyping of IL-1B-31, IL-1B-511, and IL-1Ra was performed in 118 ITP patie...
متن کاملInterleukin-1 Receptor Antagonist and Interleukin-4 Genes Variable Number Tandem Repeats Are Associated with Adiposity in Malaysian Subjects
Interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL1RA) intron 2 86 bp repeat and interleukin-4 (IL4) intron 3 70 bp repeat are variable number tandem repeats (VNTRs) that have been associated with various diseases, but their role in obesity is elusive. The objective of this study was to investigate the association of IL1RA and IL4 VNTRs with obesity and adiposity in 315 Malaysian subjects (128 M/187 F; 23 M...

Sir—The experience reported by Myoken et al. [1] of superinfection with fungal organisms resistant to itraconazole in patients who are receiving the drug as prophylaxis is of interest. We have not seen superinfections with resistant organisms in immunocompromised HIV-infected patients receiving prophylactic itraconazole. In our experience [2] and in that of others who have reported in vitro tes...
